Family technology, built differently

Taking screens away isn’t enough. What replaces them matters.

Task Box Tech is developing technology that helps families redirect screen time toward responsibility, practical skills, movement, learning and time together—experiences research associates with healthy child development.

01 / The company

Families do not need another app that only measures the problem.

Most screen-time tools monitor, restrict or report. Task Box Tech is exploring a more practical question: what if technology could help redirect attention toward contribution, responsibility and time together?

Introducing

Gig Caddy

Gig Caddy logo

A purpose-built physical and digital system for real family life.

Gig Caddy brings connected household hardware, a parent-controlled mobile experience, a clear child-facing Gig system and Family Timer into one coordinated product.

The goal is straightforward: give parents a practical way to connect screen access with meaningful action—without turning family life into another complicated piece of software.

01

Parents guide

Set the experience, assign Gigs and keep oversight clear.

02

Kids take action

See what needs to be done through a simple, understandable experience.

03

Families reconnect

Family Timer puts participation and leading by example at the center.

03 / Our approach

The technology should feel quiet. The family experience should feel obvious.

We are designing hardware and software as one product, with four principles guiding the work.

  1. 01Parents lead by example.
  2. 02Technology supports action—not more screen consumption.
  3. 03Family contribution comes before rewards.
  4. 04Simplicity is a product requirement.

04 / Where we are

Development follows evidence, not a launch calendar.

Building carefully before building at scale.

05 / Our team

Three perspectives.
One practical idea.

Our founding team brings more than three decades of combined experience building teams, managing assets, developing software and turning complex operational problems into practical solutions.

How the idea began

A research question became a product idea.

Task Box Tech began with a simple contrast. Research points to the potential value of age-appropriate responsibility, consistent family routines and active participation in children’s development. Yet many families face recurring conflict around personal devices, while most screen-time tools focus primarily on restricting access.

That contrast led to a more useful question:

When a device is taken away, what meaningful experience should replace it?

Marcio continued examining research involving household responsibilities, executive function, family routines, parent participation and screen use. That work shaped the original Task Box concept—and eventually Gig Caddy: a system designed not merely to restrict screen time, but to redirect it toward action and family participation, empowering parents to lead by example.

Research that informs the question

Independent studies helped turn an observation into a product-development hypothesis.

Household responsibilities · 2022

Executive functions and household chores

In parent reports covering 207 children ages 5–13, participation in self-care and family-care chores was associated with working memory and inhibition.

Important limitation: The study was observational and parent-reported. It does not prove that chores caused stronger executive function.

Family routines · 2024

Routines and child development

A systematic review of 170 studies found that routines were generally associated with positive outcomes across cognitive, self-regulation, social-emotional, academic and health domains.

Important limitation: The evidence spans different routines, populations and methods. Association does not establish that one routine produces every outcome.

Screen time · 2019

Screen time and developmental screening

In a longitudinal cohort of 2,441 mothers and children, higher screen time at ages 24 and 36 months was associated with poorer performance on developmental screening measures at later assessments.

Important limitation: Screen time and development were parent-reported, and the study did not separate different types or quality of screen use.

Task Box Tech did not conduct these studies. They inform our product-development questions but do not establish that Gig Caddy produces the same outcomes. Product-specific claims require validation.
